That this House congratulates Young Marmalade, a member of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety, for its pioneering safer car and insurance scheme and notes that new drivers that take up the scheme are three times less likely to be involved in a crash; and furthermore is pleased to learn that Young Marmalade is linking up with the Road Safety Unit at Staffordshire County Council to support and invest in additional training for new drivers in the county.

One new company, Young Marmalade (www.youngmarmalade.co.uk), has seen the gap in the market and seized the initiative. It believes that the risks are lower if you're driving a new car, rather than an old banger, and offers a combined deal of car purchase and insurance. Provisional license holders are included in the scheme and start building up their own no-claims bonus immediately.

Young Marmalade - funny name, clever idea. Young Marmalade is a company that specialises in kitting out young drivers with a new, or nearly new, car and insurance in the same package. A sort of one-stop shop for young drivers.

In it, young drivers (or their parents) simply make one payment for the car and insurance over a set period.

Like normal finance then, except that Young Marmalade has agreed very competitive insurance rates.

The news is that the company can underwrite deals so that if a youngster or parent runs into trouble - like losing a job - Young Marmalade will buy the car back and repay the finance. Sounds sensible to me.
